Actress Queen Nwokoye says she didn't sleep with producers to get movie roles

Many expected that the light-skinned actress would quit the industry and opt for a white-collar job since she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Nwokoye said, “Lagos is too rowdy. It’s too busy for me. In Lagos, everybody is hustling. I am not a hustler. All my life, I have never had to hustle for anything, anything I have came to me, including stardom.”

Does that mean she is one of the said few that didn’t have to sleep with a producer to get movie roles? ‘‘If it is true that actresses have to sleep with producers to get roles, I’m happy I didn’t have to do so. Sometimes, it is people’s way of trying to explain away their failure. I didn’t pass through it. From my experience, nobody ever asked to sleep with me. If you present yourself as someone that can sleep around to get roles, people will treat you that way. But the truth is how many people do you want to sleep with before you become famous?”

Queen, who has been accused of refusing to discuss her marital status, said stardom hasn’t changed her. “I don’t think anybody can accuse me of being proud. I don’t even consider myself a star and I don’t see how someone like me can begin to act arrogantly.”

With plans to produce movies; Queen said she was grateful to God and her fans that had kept faith with her.

Read The Dangerous Effects Of Make-Up Most Ladies Don’t Know

This is great news for some ladies. Read Carefully and Slowly. Dermatologist, Dr Idi Martins, has warned against excessive use of make-up, saying that it exposes the skin to considerable amounts of germs and harmful toxins, Vanguard reports.

Martins told the told newsmen on Friday in Abuja that excessive use of make-up could cause skin irritation, allergies and even skin cancer because of the chemical content. He said that that make-up could have severe adverse effects on the skin and other parts of the body, including the eyes.

“The chemicals found in lipsticks, eye pencils, mascara, kajal, among others, could cause serious health problems.” He advised that women who apply make-up should clean their faces before going to bed, to remove all traces of chemicals from the skin.

“It is very imperative to use suitable face washes, cleansers, toners and scrubs to wash off the make-up on the skin daily, especially at night, to avert any skin irritation or disease,’’ Martins said.

Similarly, Mrs Pamela Adebowale, a beautician and make-up dealer, said that the wrong application of make-up could result in skin irritation. Adebowale, stressed the need for women to know their skin type in order to know the appropriate type of make-up to apply, particularly on the face.

“You have to know your skin type to enable you to know the appropriate make-up to use for the best effect.’’ She said wrong application of make-up, rather than enhance beauty, could mar it.

Legend Actor Pete Edochie dissociates self from random posts, says he is not on social media

Renowned actor, Pete Edochie, has lamented the number of social media accounts being opened in his name.

Edochie said he does not have any account yet so many accounts have his name and so many posts are attributed to him.

The actor, known for his proverbs in movies, told the Punch that he was tired of people using his name falsely on social media and that he chose to speak out in order not to allow the false stories continue.

Hide quoted text
He said, “From time to time, you would hear or read that Pete Edochie died in London or on location. In our culture, if people wish you dead, you’d attend the person’s funeral. I’m satisfied with what life has given me. I don’t envy anybody and I don’t want to be anybody. I just want to be left alone as Pete Edochie.

“Right now, I’m watching football in my house, but as I speak to you, some people are posting on Facebook or Twitter, using my name and picture.

“There was a day I was sitting in my house and I started receiving messages of sympathy, that they heard my son had an accident and died while on set. I just took my phone and called him, and he told me he was on location, shooting a movie. He came to my house when he finished, whereas people had spread wrong information around.

“It’s either they are talking about politics, state of the nation, ascribing series of proverbs to me or using my name to counsel people about marriage. Someone asked me how I had time to put plenty proverbs on Facebook. I told the person I wasn’t responsible for them and that I didn’t even have a Facebook account, and she couldn’t believe it.

“Some people said I sat with Mourhino in one of the profile pictures and that I was telling him the gods were angry with him. Then, they posted another one that Buhari came to consult with me in my shrine.

“Somebody woke me up a few days ago and pointed my attention to what was written in my name about (Senator Ike) Ekweremadu. I was surprised. I don’t know him neither do I have any issue with him. Again, few days ago, it was also posted that Federal Government needed me for something. All the nonsense people write about me, I’m not happy about it.

“I’m not a politician, and I am not the only actor in this country. Throughout the campaign during the last general election, I didn’t campaign for anybody, yet on the social media you see people using my name to express support for one candidate or the other.

“I speak very good English, and those posting those things in my name write in the way I can never write. That is the saving grace. Just recently, someone informed me that he saw somewhere in my name that I wrote on one of these platforms that people should come and pay N50, 000, as according to them, I was organising a programme. What programme?

“If you begin to reply to all of that false information about you, you will make it a habit, and so anytime you don’t issue a disclaimer on a particular post, they assume you are the one speaking.

“Somebody told me he saw in the newspaper that my wife supported me when I started acting and that I divorced her when I started making money and I started running after a girl whom they said I bought a car for. In the post, they even put the number plate of the car, and that happened to be my wife’s car.

“During the Valentine’s Day, I was in my house, but they wrote on the social media that I was in Lagos. They said they wanted to interview me, they knocked on the door but l was busy inside. Again, there was a time a boy from Kenya wrote on Facebook that I was his father. How is that possible? The boy did not even say where I met his mother,” the actor wondered.

Ijaw Leaders Promise To Resolve Militancy Crisis In 30 Days

PRESIDENT Ijaw National Congress, INC , Chief Charles Harry has assured that it could resolve the challenges of militancy in the Niger delta region within 30 days if the Federal Government ceases hostilities in the region.

Speaking yesterday at the secretariat of the apex Ijaw body in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the newly sworn in national president, Chief Harry warned against use of military force in the region, saying the area had lost enough youths.

“We ask for peace to return to the region;shooting and bombings can be resolved in 30 days,“ he said.

He said the Federal Government also had a role to play for enduring peace to reign in the region, stressing that it should take steps to redress challenges of underdevelopment in the area.

Ex-RCCG pastor writes Adeboye open letter, demands unpaid fees, others

After serving at the Redeemed Christian Church of God for 23 years, Bayo Akinjiyan, 55, has decried what he described as “man’s inhumanity to man and the travesty of justice” by the church he served “meritoriously.”1

Akinjiyan, who voluntarily resigned from the church in 2013 after rising to the position of an assistant provincial pastor at Lagos Province 25, said he could not fathom why an organisation he was once a part of for 23 years would treat him with “human indignity” and refuse to pay him what is due to him.

Upon his exit from the church, Akinjiyan said he had to vacate a N15m house he personally built on Plot 15, Diligence Road, Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which is in line with the policy of the church that a non-member has no rights to own any building at the camp.

However, after handing over the property, its receipt has yet to be acknowledged by the authorities of the church; a position Akinjiyan said had made him uncomfortable.

His other grievance is over unpaid consultancy fees amounting to over N2m on projects designed, supervised and or managed by him since 2012.

Akinjiyan said he had exploited all available media to express his grievances to the church, including through the writing of private letters to the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, but after waiting for over two years and his grievances had yet to be addressed, he had resorted to writing an open letter to the leader of the church.

His letter read, “First, I want to address the attitude and response of the authorities and leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God over the house on Plot 15, Diligence Road, Redemption Camp Estate, Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that I handed over to them upon my voluntary exit from the church after 23 years of meritorious service and having risen to the position of assistant provincial pastor.

“This was contained in my letter of resignation, dated November 3, 2013. That I gave my best in this adventure was alluded to by the church in the letter of release, dated March 11, 2014, which states inter alia, ‘…We wish to appreciate you for your contributions to this ministry and we pray that God will reward and support you in your future endeavours…’

“Secondly, the attitude and response of the Board of Governors of Christ the Redeemers College, Sagamu, Ogun State Nigeria — a private secondary school operated by Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries, an affiliate of RCCG, over an unpaid consultancy fees on projects designed, supervised and or managed by me since 2012.

“I know the implications of my actions and having fully weighed my options, I hereby accept full responsibilities for my actions. My decision to inform the Christian community and the larger society is not aimed at destroying or tarnishing the image of anyone or maligning the church that once gave me fire, but rather, it is aimed at putting records straight, and satisfying my God and my conscience. I have prayed over this matter, consulted those that I needed to, and I’ve come to the conclusion that God is on the side of those who have a right standing with Him.

“Let us address the first issue — the house at Redemption Camp. In line with the policy of the RCCG mission on those who build on its land, the keys to the house on the above mentioned location, which is a five-bedroom house (all en-suite), valued by a firm of chartered estate surveyors at N15.5m as of December 5, 2011, were submitted to the church through my letter to the General Overseer, dated March 4, 2014 upon my voluntary exit.

“Reminders were also sent through four other letters dated September 2, 2015, January 2, 2016, March 10, 2016, and June 27, 2016.  Of all these letters and reminders, the only response I had was a letter dated October 9, 2015, acknowledging the letter of September 2, stating as follows, ‘…We wish to inform you that the issues raised in your letter have been referred to concerned officials for their comments and response. We shall get back to you as we receive feedback and further directives from the mission authority.

“Almost a year down the line, I am still waiting. My request was that the church should at least officially acknowledge the receipt of the house, even if there is no form of compensation. The God who built that for me can always give me a better one. This is my belief. The need to acknowledge the takeover of the house becomes necessary for at least two reasons: first, when I get to heaven (and by the grace of God I will make it), there will be an official and authentic record from RCCG in my favour, of the house that was forfeited to her as a result of doing the will of the Master here on earth.

“Secondly, it is to my knowledge that properties said to belong to the leadership of the church or that of the RCCG Mission sometimes allegedly, carelessly and surreptitiously fall into wrong hands. In view of this development, the question is: Is Pastor Adeboye even aware of this house in question of having been handed over to RCCG? If yes, has he given an instruction for my request to be granted? If yes, what is delaying his instruction from being carried out almost a year after? If no action has been taken with all these efforts of mine, what is the reason for this?”

Akinjiyan’s second grievance is the non-payment of N2,140,604.66 consultancy fee on projects designed, supervised and managed by him since 2012 at Christ the Redeemers College, the secondary school of the church.

He wrote, “I was appointed by the governing board of the above-named college for the purpose of overseeing the projects on a week-by-week basis at a meeting held by the Board on November 28, 2009. My duties and responsibilities were diligently carried out to the letter. When I wrote to the college for payment thereafter, no response was given. I wrote a reminder after two years, the college refused to collect the letter for reasons best known to the official at their reception desk. I thereafter sent it to the General Overseer on March 10, 2016. A reminder was sent in June 2016 and also a personal copy to Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, the wife of the G.O., who is a major stakeholder of the college.

“For all these to have happened in a church I diligently served for 23 years is questionable in my opinion. I have yet to find out why I should be so treated in this manner even after I had followed due process to secure my release. Please also note that it took the church over two years to organise a send-off in my honour and this was after I wrote the G.O. about it. It took the church over two years and after two separate letters of reminder, to pay royalty on over 30 of my published books in the church bookshops. This also happened after I wrote to the G.O. about it.

“Would it be right then to say that perhaps all these are personal vendetta coming from those on whose toes I stepped on while I served through my insistence that right things must be done and I am now being made to pay for my uncompromising stance on corruptive tendencies within the spheres I served and particularly at the college?

“I believe that for our nation to be great again, all hands must be on deck. Religious leaders have a crucial role to play beyond praying for the nation. They need to also teach their members and warn against the evil of corruption, expose its tendencies within the system. Then and only then can our nation be sanitised and become great again. The government alone cannot fight and win this humongous battle against corruption.

“One thing is for sure: for the leadership of the RCCG to keep ignoring me and all the letters I’ve sent across to it for its own best known reasons would be cutting off its nose to spite its face. I know so much more than anyone could think of and I counsel that they should just let sleeping dogs lie. If this situation persists in the next couple of days, one may be compelled to press for full redress on these issues. I am using this opportunity to call on all those who believe in the course of justice within the church and outside of it to please assist me in this cause. I’m calling on human rights groups and civil society organisations and others to please strengthen my arm through the law if need be.

“I also call on the irrepressible media, both print and electronic in Nigeria and in the international community, to conduct investigative journalism and prove me wrong in any of my assertions. A young lawyer friend has provided me legal services so far and has written the appropriate bodies on these issues. I pray the church authority will act fast on this, but if they think otherwise, I am fully prepared for the days ahead. I also know that this journey may be long, lonely and dreary. The wheel of justice may grind slowly, but with God on my side, there is a glorious light at end of the tunnel.

“To the Christian community and friends, I demand your prayers at this time. I know some ‘brethren’ will vilify me, abuse and harass me, take me through scriptures on how to resolve church conflicts (I’ve explored all these) or how not to touch ‘mine anointed.’ I know some would call me names, raise non-existing scandalous issues that have not surfaced since I left over three years ago. I know I could be under threat of attack or be monitored. I am not bothered.

“What is not worth dying for is not worth living for. Some might ask: You want to destroy a house you helped in building or once lived in? My answer is ‘no’. It is to prevent the house from collapsing on its present occupants that is my concern. Some might ask why fight over mundane issues such as house or money and just N2.1m? My answer is ‘no’. I have been involved in projects for the church to the extent that that if I were to collect consultancy fees, it would have run into over tens of millions of naira, but yet I executed some of these projects with my colleagues in the building industry for next to nothing.

“I am not a gold digger nor do I seek to reap where I did not sow. I belong to the Joshua generation and this error of treating with indignity people who follow due process in resigning from the church must stop. I have suffered in the hands of vipers, vultures, lions, crocodiles, pharaohs and goliaths in the church system over the years, I’ve suffered with Christ through obedience to His will. I’ve gone through and still going through ‘indignity’ of living in a rented accommodation, after building a decent house and living in it just because of doing God’s will. I’ve had my own portion of the vicissitudes of life.

“I have a different spirit and have followed the Lord fully. Having been given positions of trust and responsibilities and never abused any, I rejoice and see all these as part of the faith package of my redemption through Christ Jesus and in all of these. I’m more than a conqueror. I have no regret of any decisions taken in the past, I have no better yesterday yet, I’m a believer in a glorious tomorrow. I have coveted no man’s silver or gold; I’ve never stolen church funds or church members.

“Unconfirmed reports indicate how people who left the Redemption Camp sold their houses through illegal transfers without the mission batting an eyelid. I decided to do the right thing and must I suffer for it? While I do not claim to be perfect, just as no one is, I contend daily for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints. I am not intimidated and can never be. I serve the living God, the God of faithfulness and without injustice, good and upright is He. A word, they say, is enough for the wise and those who live in glass houses do not throw stones.”

Linda Ikeji 'marriage is not an achievement' Blogger speaks

Linda when asked on her take not being married at 30, she revealed she gets pressured from family, friends and people who just can’t mind their business.

Popular blogger, Linda Ikeji, comedian Chigurl and publisher,Betty Irabor in a recent interview speak on the pressure to marry before 30.

Linda when asked on her take not being married at 30, she revealed she gets pressured from family, friends and people who just can’t mind their business.

"Marriage is not an achievement. There is so much more to life than being someone’s wife. Get married please, but don’t be pressured into it. I don’t know how many of you single girls are under pressure to get married  but I am. Pressure from family, friends and people who just can’t mind their business," she said, adding, "The pressure is so intense right now I feel like going to husband market – if there is any such thing- to buy myself some breathing space. Give me a break you people."

Chigurl however said, "In my opinion, the pressure is not a fabrication. It is very real ! After you have won asoebi about a million times, you begin to wonder when it is going to be your turn to sell asoebi too ! And when you factor in mums and aunties constantly reminding you about the shelf life of women. It gets to you, even if it is just a bit.

People may even suggest some very strange things to you to do to ‘earn’ marriage. Well, I have come to realise that we allow ourselves to be pressured. The decision to get married should not be taken because you are being pressured, that could lead to a disaster. Don’t let anyone make you go into anything you are not ready for or your joy may be shortlived. And to those mounting pressure on others to go and get married, there is simply no justification for your behaviour."

Flood in Zamfara renders 801 people homeless

Alhaji Sanusi Mohammed, the executive secretary of SEMA in Zamafara, made the disclosure on Wednesday, August 10.
The flood reportedly struck Maru town in Zamfara. In a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Muhammad said the affected persons included 180 women and 621 children.

He said 52 houses and farmlands were also destroyed during the disaster which occurred on July 29. The executive secretary also said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and its counterpart in the state had visited the town.
“NEMA and SEMA have visited the affected town and conducted a joint assessment of the disaster. We will forward such assessment to our respective agencies for immediate assistance.’’

Muhammad called on residents of the state to avoid blocking drainages or constructing structures on water ways to avoid similar disasters. The Nigeria Metrological Agency had recently warned people along major rivers in parts of the country to vacate their houses to prevent loss of lives and property due to anticipated flooding the rivers. Similarly, NEMA had alerted Nigerians of possible flood in some of the states in the north and urged people and relevant authorities to prepare for emergency.

In a related development, no fewer than 29 cows were on Tuesday swept away by a downpour in the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau state. The flooding also destroyed farmlands and swept away bridges linking the area to other parts of the state. Member representing Jos East Constituency in the Plateau state House of Assembly, Mr Joshua Madaki, told reporters on Wednesday that the heavy rain, which lasted several hours, also disconnected the council secretariat from the people, forcing residents to go through the Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi state before they could reach the council headquarters.

Madaki solicited the intervention of the state government and public-spirited individuals to rescue the affected communities by providing relief materials and reconstructing the damaged bridges to enable the farmers move their produce to the markets.

He said: “The flood did not spare anything on its way as it carried away more than 29 cows. Apart from this, the main roads connecting Fobur-Federe-Angwari at Keven are badly washed away by the flood, including crops such as rice, yam and millet.”  “With the total collapse of roads, no heavy truck can pass through the area,” Madaki buttressed.

Meanwhile, Disaster has hit Kano state as flood destroyed over 5,300 houses in six local government areas of the state. A ccording to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the executive secretary of the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency, Alhaji Aliyu Bahsir disclosed this in an interview in Kano on Monday, August 8th. Bashir also said that the affected local government areas were: Bebeji, Dawakin Kudu, Kiru, Shanono, Bagwai and Garun-Malam.

Speaking on those affected, he said: “In Dawakin Kudu alone, more than 2,300 houses were affected, while more than 600 houses in each of the remaining five areas were destroyed by the flood.” When asked about the response of officials to the tragedy, Bashir said that the officials of the agency had visited all the affected areas with a view to assessing the damage cause by the accident.

Very Interesting!! Why ATM Pin Has 4 Digits Only? – See The Reason Here

We as Nigerians come across a lot of exciting, captivating and thought provoking things in our day to day activities.

However, due to our busy schedule, and sometimes the thought of where we’re headed at the particular period in time, across we don’t really bother to look into the background of these amazing inventions.

We are 100% sure that 99.9% of our readers make use of the ATM machines more than twice within the period of a week.

Majority of the time we have the need to make use of the atm, we are often saddled with the thought of how long we need to wait before making withdrawals or any other ATM enabled task due to the status of the queue. The highlighted points above are some of the reasons why many Nigerians have never bothered to look into why the ATM pin is only four(4) digits.

The main purpose of this post is to educate my readers on why the ATM pin has only four digits. Before we talk about that, however, let’s skim through how the ATM machine came into existence.

The Computer Loan Machine triggered the invention of the ATM machine. The individual who took it upon himself to design the first ever Automated Teller Machine is a man called John Adrian Sheperd-Barron. Barron also developed the idea of embedding pin code into individual debit and credit cards.

Now, to the main part of the post , which is why ATM pin consists of only 4-digits. The inventor of the ATM machine which is John Adrian Shepherd-Barron was born to the family of Dorothy Barron, two time Wimbledon women champion, in Shillong.

Barron initially proposed a 6 digit pin, but later had to reconsider his proposal due to his wife’s inability to remember a large string of digits. The reason our ATM pin has only four digits is because of the inventor’s wife’s disability.

Nowadays, 4 digit pin is no longer enough to keep our funds secured, due to cyber theft. Most banks outside Nigeria are now offering a 6-digit pin code for accessing credit and debit cards. This development is a good one but it’ll burden the average Nigerian banks’ customer care assistants as many Nigerians are bound to forget their pins easily.

Ebonyi Govt condemns stripping, battering of teenage girl

ABAKALIKI-EBONYI State Government, on Wednesday, condemned the stripping and battering of a 15-year-old girl, Miss Uzoamaka Chukwu by some people in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.

Gov. Dave Umahi

Recall that Ebonyi State Police command had arrested the Coordinator of Ohaozara Development Centre, Mr Ogbonnaya Ene Odi for his alleged role in the dehumanizing treatment meted out on the victim in Ohaozara local government area of the state.

The JSS2 student was allegedly stripped naked, dragged around on the ground and flogged under the orders of the Coordinator.

Also arrested were the two policemen (names withheld) who allegedly arrested and took part in the ill-treatment of the 15 years old orphan.

The government, in a statement by Emma Anya, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor David Umahi, said  it had directed the police command to ensure that all the perpetrators, be they political appointees or not, were properly investigated with a view to bringing those guilty to justice.

The statement read in part: “Ebonyi State Government condemns in totality, the inhuman treatment meted out to a minor, Miss Uzoamaka, Chukwu, by some people in Ohoazara LGA.

“Government encourages the state police command to ensure a thorough investigation of the incident and bring to book, the suspects, some of whom are already in detention.

“Governor David Umahi will not in any way condone the violation of the rights of any Ebonyian, especially minors, by anyone be he in government or private sector.

“The pollicisation of this pitiful situation cannot benefit the little girl concerned nor the politicians parading her on national media. The naked images of the child splashed on newspaper pages are utterly condemnable.

“Government has already taken action to locate the minor in order to ensure that she is properly rehabilitated and made to overcome the trauma she has passed through”.

The accused, with no definite address, is currently facing a charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 29 at Ajido Bus Stop in the Badagry.

17-year-old pregnant girl dies after drinking "Otapiapia" in lagos

17-year-old pregnant girl, simply identified as Temitope Saka, has died after drinking insecticide, (Sniper), in the Igando area of Lagos State.

Saka allegedly blamed her grandma for her suicide mission.

Punch reports that Saka’s boyfriend reported the case at the Igando police division, which led to the arrest of the woman.

An eyewitness explained that Saka, who was the only child of her parents, was taken to her grandmother’s house on Mofoluwasho Close, Alhaji Ede bus stop, Igando after her mother died when she was three years.

The source said, “She had been living with her grandma since her mother died. The grandma is a trader in Ikotun, where the girl met her boyfriend, who is also a trader.

“There were times that the girl brought the man home and he spent the night with her because the grandma went for vigils.”

After taking in, out of fear, she drank the poison and began foaming in the mouth at her boyfriend’s house.

She was said to have been rushed to the Igando General Hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctors.

Her boyfriend, who saw the suicide note, was said to have reported the incident to the police.

A resident said, “The girl and the boyfriend loved each other. The man did not even reject the pregnancy.

“The grandma probably chased her away because she could not stand the shame that the girl got pregnant out of wedlock.

“Last Wednesday, while she was at the boyfriend’s house, she started foaming in the mouth and she was taken to the hospital.

“The boyfriend found a suicide note where she accused her grandma of causing her death. He reported to the police.

“The police took the note and arrested the woman. She was in tears at the bus stop as she kept saying she didn’t mean any harm.”

Prostitution: 80 percent of Nigerians in Italy

80 per cent of Nigerian women in Italy arrived for prostitution – UNBy Wale Odunsi on August 9, 2016@dailypostngr

The United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) has said that about eighty per cent of Nigerian women who arrived Italy by boat in the first half of 2016 were trafficked for prostitution.

“What we have seen this year is a crisis; it is absolutely unprecedented and is the most significant increase in the number of Nigerian women arriving in Italy for 10 years,” UK Guardian quoted Simona Moscarelli, an anti-trafficking expert at the IOM.

She said majority of the women were being deliberately brought in for sexual exploitation purposes as criminal gangs and trafficking networks engaging in the sexual exploitation of younger Nigerian girls had expanded.

In 2014, about 1,500 Nigerian women arrived by sea. In 2015 this figure had increased to 5,633. Moscarelli warned that the current policy of placing Nigerian women in reception centres along with thousands of other migrants was playing to the traffickers’ advantage, with women regularly going missing.

Most Nigerian women who arrived in Italy are already victims of trafficking, many have been subjected to serious sexual exploitation in Libya, she said.

“They are really treated like slaves. They arrive Italy with debts of about £40,000 for their journey from Nigeria, which they are expected to pay back.

Is Pastor Chris getting married again?

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Love-World Ministry has decided to give marriage another trial, after his messy divorce and so many other scandalous stories thrilling the man of God and his previous marriage to the mother of his two kids.

According to report by Thisday, it was revealed that the controversial man of God and founder of the Believers’ Love-world a.k.a Christ Embassy is considering taking a new wife after his divorce with the mother of his two daughters, Pastor Anita.

Though the new development has not been made known to the congregation, but it was gathered a close source to the man of God revealed that a large segment of the congregation are already aware of his plan to take a new wife.

Shockingly, it has also been learnt that the ladies have started positioning themselves to fill up the void created by Anita’s departure from his life, as a lot of fair-skinned ladies in the church’s branches at home and abroad have started jostling to become the next Mrs. Oyakhilome. But Pastor Chris is reportedly not interested in any of them.

Sources revealed that by the time he names his new bride, every member of his congregation will gape in surprise.

The billionaire pastor allegedly gave up on his former wife when it became clear to him that there was no way that they could resolve their differences and save their marriage. Previous attempts to reconcile the couple by church elders, friends and family had proved futile.

While Pastor Chris prepares to take a new bride as widely speculated, his estranged wife, Anita has since reverted to her maiden name. She is now to be addressed as Anita Ebhodaghe.

Buhari - fulfilling my campaign promises will not be easy

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday reiterated his resolve towards fulfilling his campaign promises to Nigerian.
Speaking at the Graduation Ceremony of Course 24 of the National Defence College, Abuja, the President noted that though it will not be easy, he is determined to live up to his promises.

According to the President, he and members of his team were trusting in God to deliver good governance through hard work and sound vision.

He said, “Let me assure you all that this administration is committed to bequeathing to this nation, a new orientation in leadership that will be service-driven and committed to the realisation of its promises to the electorates.

“We are however not under any illusions that this task is an easy one.

“But we have put our trust in God knowing that with hard work and sound vision, we will triumph.”

The President has recently come under heavy criticism following the current harsh economic reality in the country. The recent and most shocking of the criticism was the one by his supporter in the 2015 election, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, who said that Nigerians’ high hope of Buhari had been dashed as a result of the current situation.

Why Samson Siasia’s worrisome defence can’t be fixed

Samson Siasia's is not known for putting together great defences; scoring won't be a problem for this side but poor defensive structure.

It is unusual to score five goals in a game and still struggle to win it, but that was the case of the Samson Siasia led Nigeria U-23 side. I would however first commend the team for a job well done. If you are reading this you already know about the flight delays that made the Dream Team VI players and officials arrive Manaus just few hours before the game against Japan.

Failure of the fund transfer system of the Nigerian Sports Ministry along with other issues-which include the players refusing to board a plane because it was too small-meant that the Dream Team VI had to do majority of their preparations aboard a 32-seater Delta plane.

From a video shared on Twitter by the Media Officer of the team, Timi Ebikagboro the players can be seen stretching their legs and discussing match tactics aboard the plane to Manaus, Brazil. This was necessary because with just less than seven hours to rest and prepare for the game after arriving, every moment mattered.

These strenuous circumstances make it very hard to criticise the players and coaches after grabbing all the three points from the game against Japan. One thing that is troubling I and millions of fans in the country is how poor our defence was during the game.

The midfielder had the composure and the ball-passing abilities needed to steady the game and launch an attack while the forward line had the pace, power and skills to trouble any defence.

The defence however was a different story. There was no communication between defenders, the defensive midfield was too far away from the back four. The centre-back pairing of William Troost-Ekong and Seth Muenfuah was also a disaster. Troost-Eko was often left on his own to deal with situations-using Japan’s second goal as an example.  Our goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel also looked out of place and short of confidence.

All these problems are fixable; the only problem here now lies with the man in charge, Siasia.

The Bayelsa-State born coach is not known for putting together great defences. Siasia believes in the maxim ‘best form of defense is attack’. While this is encouraging and exciting, it leaves you very open against top oppositions.

Siasia loves playing with flying full backs and just one defensive midfielder with the other two in his 4-3-3 formation also barging forward to join the attacks.  This system hurts when an opposition counters you, then the team is only left with just the centre-backs and the defensive midfielder to defend.

It was however great to see Siasia make some effective changes in the game. Taking out Usman Muhammed andImoh Ezekiel for  Kingsley Madu and Ndifreke Udorespectively were tactically astute.

With any Siasia team, scoring is not a problem; always conceding is usually the worry. The worrisome defence can’t be fixed by Siasia but outscoring every opponent can deliver Football Gold for Nigeria again.

Rapist marries victim to avoid going to jail

A Malaysian man who raped a 14-year-old girl avoided being thrown in jail after he married the young victim, sparking calls from angry activists for legal reforms on Thursday.

A court in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on Borneo island ruled last week there was “no necessity to proceed further with this case” following evidence that the two were married, the Borneo Post news website reported.

The victim, now 15, was allegedly raped twice by Ahmad Syukri Yusuf, in his twenties, last year. Rape in Malaysia carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and whipping.

Activists say such cases are not uncommon in the conservative Muslim-majority country, where sometimes victims’ families would rather a girl marry her rapist instead of her name being tarnished in court.

But this loophole in the system can give the wrong signal to others that there are no serious consequences for rape, they say.

“Over the years we have handled many such cases where the man marries the victim and then divorces her and pays some money to her family,” Aegile Fernandez of Tenaganita, an NGO in Malaysia, told AFP.

“A rape is a rape. There needs to be better education on this,” she added, calling the case an “injustice”.

In 2013, a man who raped a 12-year-old girl avoided prison after he married her, provoking an outcry among rights groups. However, the following year a high court sentenced the father-of-four to 12 years in jail.

Opposition politician Teo Nie Ching also criticised the latest court ruling.

“This is not the first time that a rapist [has been] allowed to marry his underage victim, and this is surely not going to be the last,” she was quoted as saying by the Malaysiakini news website.

Child marriages are not uncommon in the Southeast Asian country.

Girls below the age of 16 must obtain the permission of Islamic courts — who regulate civil matters for Muslims — but activists say such permission is too readily granted.

What E.A Adeboye said about bearded pastors

ON BEARDED PASTORS

The holiness preacher took a swipe at some of his pastors who wear beards like members of the Islamic State (ISIS).

“I don’t believe in the Theory of Evolution. That something came out of the ocean, became like a lizard, after sometime the lizard took to the trees and became a monkey and the monkey became a gorilla and the gorilla became a man!

“Let’s assume it’s true. It is not a man that became a gorilla. So when I suddenly see a man who used to look like me – clean shaved, nice face, suddenly begin to look like a gorilla, I shake my head.

“In Open Heaven recently, we discussed that God set aside Levites  and asked Moses to tell them to shave themselves. But today, even pastors now wear ugly hair and call it identity. They now look like representatives of ISIS.

“You’re not representatives of the youth. Youths do things to get attention. Many youths don’t know where they are going. They take consolation in the constancy of their fathers.

“But if Daddy does not know where he is going. It is stupidity to call what is fashion now what was used in the 60s.

“The youths don’t respect elders that look like them. They wonder if the elders know their age.

“You are supposed to be the guiding light. I don’t want my pastors to look like people coming from the training camp of Al-Qaeda.

“God who made me your father didn’t make mistakes.”
